Second Circular: International Conference «Study and conservation of plant diversity of Eastern Fennoscandia»

Dear colleagues!

As announced earlier, the International Conference «Study and conservation of plant diversity of Eastern Fennoscandia», dedicated to 100 anniversary of Marianna Leontjevna Ramenskaya (1915–1991), will be held in Kirovsk (Murmansk Province, Russia) on 15–19th June 2012 .

The Organizing Committee has registered about 100 participants from Russia (Apatity, Petrozavodsk, S-Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Moscow, Vologda, Tolyatti etc.), from Finland, Norway and Abkhazia. We appreciate your interest in the scientific heritage of M.L. Ramenskaya and will be happy to see you in our institute!

The working languages of the conference will be Russian and English

 

Conference themes

  • heritage of M.L. Ramenskaya

  • floristic and taxonomical studies

  • systematics and taxonomy of fungi, lichens, algae and plants

  • diversity of plant communities, their structure and dynamics, vegetation classification and mapping

  • dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems and their components under complex natural and anthropogenic factors

  • study of plant populations

  • physiology of fungi, lichens, algae and plants

  • biodiversity conservation and Red Data Books;

Presentations:

Plenary presentations are expected to last 30 min, including replies to the questions. Section presentations should last 20 min, including replies to the questions. PowerPoint presentations are advised for demonstration via PC. A computer and a projector will be available. If you wish to use some other form of multimedia (e.g., films) please inform the Organizing Committee (bryo.kpabg@list.ru)

Posters: there will be a poster session, where the authors will be expected to explain briefly the topic of their poster.

Three round table discussions will be arranged. They will focus on:

  • biodiversity conservation, Red Data Books of species and habitats, criteria of value and endangered vegetation habitats;

  • classification of vegetation, biogeographical regions, correctness of data on vegetation mapping;

  • botanical collections and databases.

 

Abstracts: the abstract submission is no later than 15th February 2015. Due to the limited conference time, we reserve the right to advise some oral presentations at the poster session. The Conference Committee expects to make these decisions after receiving all abstracts by 15th March 2015. Notifications will be sent by e-mail.

Abstracts in MS Word for Windows format must be submitted by e-mail: bryo.kpabgi@list.ru. Totally, the abstract should not exceed 3000 characters with spaces. Authors are recommended to avoid using abbreviations in the text, footnotes, tables, figures and references.

Requirements to the text: Times New Roman, size 13 pt, line spacing 1.0, all margins 2 cm, paragraph indent 1 cm, aligned by width. Please name the text by surname of presenter (i.e. Ivanov.doc). Please follow the Example to arrange your file:

Accommodation

Preliminary we suppose to accommodate all participants in the “Isovella” hotel (Apatity, http://izovela.com/ru/hotel). There are rooms for two or three persons only. The cost for one person varies from 550 to 750 rubles RUS. All participants can pay the accommodation at the registration desk of the hotel and get vouchers. Hotel offers breakfast (130–250 rubles RUS) supper (200–400 rubles RUS) and dinner (150–300 rubles RUS) in the hotel café.

The prices displayed above were in 2014 and can vary due to difference of ruble exchange rate.

 

Registration fee is preliminary 1500 rubles RUS and is paid at the registration. It includes conference material (bag, final programme, book of abstracts) and coffee breaks.

Conference dinner at 18 of June is preliminary 1500 rubles RUS.

 

Key dates and deadlines:

15 February 2015 – abstract submission

15 March 2015 – notification of abstract acceptance, the third circular (description of travel, arrival and departures, accommodation details and definite prices, etc.)

15 May 2015 – the fourth circular (Conference program, list of participants)

 

If you need a Russian visa for participation in the conference, please inform us correctly which official documents must be supplied for you by the organizing committee. An ordinary tourist visa can be easily provided by tourist agencies, and Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden-Institute can provide official invitation to participate in the Conference.
